In January 2001 I embarked on one of my most challenging adventures to date.  My goal was to summit Kala Patar, a 5545 meter high peak in the heart of the Kumbu region of the Himalayas just above the base camp of Mount Everest.

My tour was organised by the British firm The Adventure Company who in association with Ama Dablam Tours in Nepal were able to offer a great package.

I left for the trek independently and once there joined up with five other like minded individuals all participating in the same trek with Ama Dablam Tours.  Within this group was Jenna from the USA, Sheila from Scotland, Marjan  from Holland (but living in England) and Niklas and Mikael both from Sweden.  We started the trip not knowing each other and finished good friends agreeing to stay in contact with each other.
